Jokowi Said that more than 13 state leaders had congratulated him

In a subtle rebuke to his rival’s repeated victory declaration, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said on Thursday evening that more than 13 state leaders had congratulated “all Indonesians, as well as Jokowi and Ma’ruf” for the success of the general election on April 17.
He was referring to his running mate Ma’ruf Amin.
“From noon to late afternoon I have received calls from Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, as well as Turkish President Erdogan. Ten other [state leaders] have conveyed their congratulations for the big democracy celebration in our country, including the legislative election. They congratulated all Indonesians, as well as Jokowi and Ma’ruf for the success of the general election on April 17,” Jokowi said on Thursday.
At no point in his speech or answers to journalists did Jokowi declare victory, but he confirmed that the congratulations were for him and Ma’ruf and that they were all “special”.
Earlier on Wednesday, his rival Prabowo Subianto declared victory twice and made a third declaration on Thursday, almost at the same time as Jokowi’s declaration.
“Second, we are going to continue waiting, waiting for the official count from the General Elections Commission [KPU], which we hope can be completed as soon as possible. But the available quick counts have given us a clear result. I cannot declare the numbers yesterday because [the samples] were still under 70 percent. But today, because it is already almost 100 percent, we can declare that quick counts from 12 survey institutions have shown that Jokowi-Ma’ruf got 54.5 percent [of the vote] while Prabowo-Sandiaga Uno got 45.5 percent,” Jokowi went on.
Jokowi said quick counts were a scientific method to count an election result, but he reiterated that everyone should wait for the KPU’s official real count. The real count could take about three weeks.
Jokowi said he had sent someone to arrange a meeting with Prabowo and Sandiaga but they had not yet met.

Excessive sedimentation and deforestation are endangering three great lakes in East Kalimantan

Jangan lupa membaca artikel tentang bisnis di > Informasi bisnis terbaik 2020.

Excessive sedimentation and deforestation are endangering three great lakes in East Kalimantan, namely Semayang, Melintang and Jempang.

Research conducted by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) found the lakes had received at least 100,000 cubic meters of sedimentation each year since 2004.
The heavy sedimentation has led to the disappearance of nine smaller lakes.
“The borders of the nine lakes have disappeared and now it’s difficult to find the lakes. This happened because of the sedimentation and deforestation around the lakes,” a researcher from LIPI, Dede Irving Hartoto, said.
The sedimentation is caused by the ongoing massive deforestation taking place in the upstream section of the Mahakam River, he added.
The opening of new large oil palm plantations around the lakes has also contributed to the sedimentation.
According to LIPI 26 large oil palm plantations have been created around the lakes since 2004.
“During the dry season the lakes will be so dry that cars and motorcycles can cross through them,” a tourist guide, Innal Rahman, said.
However, a contrasting situation occurs when the rainy season arrives and the lakes overflow.
Researcher in rare aquatic species from the Indonesia Conservation group (RASI) Danielle Kreb said in order to prevent conditions in the lakes deteriorating the authorities needed to shore up the sides of the lakes.
Kreb added that education among local people and policymakers was also of the highest importance to raise awareness about the lakes’ condition. Proper education would also promote sustainable measures to protect the lakes such as preventing local fishermen catching fish using poisonous potassium cyanide.
The three lakes are among 15 critical lakes in the country that will be prioritized in ecological revitalization programs. The other lakes include Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Lake Batur in Bali and Lake Limboto in Gorontalo.

Jokowi hopes MRT becomes example for other cities

Jangan lupa membaca artikel tentang bisnis di > Informasi bisnis terbaik 2020.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hopes that the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system in Jakarta becomes an example for other cities in Indonesia which are planning similar ventures.

"Other big cities in Indonesia also need mass transport systems but they have limited land for such a mode of transportation," President Jokowi stated after inspecting the pace of progress of the MRT project here on Wednesday.

The president said several cities have started to develop mass transportation systems such as Palembang (South Sumatra) which is trying to develop a light carriage or LRT.

"Surabaya (East Java) also did something similar, and has gone in for a tram system," President Jokowi added.

The president stated that he will continue to monitor the progress of the MRT.

"Every day, I am monitoring the construction of the MRT although this is the responsibility of the provincial government of Jakarta," he noted.

Commenting on the drilling process, he said, in the last 93 days, it has reached till 327 meters. The drilling process on this project is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

"We saw that the Senayan station has already started to take shape and expect other stations to be finished soon," President Jokowi noted.

For the tunnel work at the MRT project, four massive drill engines have been pressed into service. These are Antareja, Antareja II, Mustika Bumi and Mustika Bumi II.

Construction of the underground tunnel with the help of a Japanese Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) began on September 2015 and is expected to be completed in December 2016.

The MRT Jakarta project of south-north corridors first phase (Lebak Bulus-Bundaran Hotel Indonesia) is now 36 percent complete.

The project work on the elevated structures have been completed by 22 percent and underground structures by 50 percent.

In general, the construction work undertaken till date has seen progress on track foundations and elevated stations, construction of the subway box structures, underground tunnel and construction of the MRT depot.

What Jokowi Want during US visit

Jangan lupa membaca artikel tentang bisnis di > Informasi bisnis terbaik 2020.

JAKARTA. Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung says issues surrounding the work contract between Freeport McMoran Copper & Gold Inc., which operates the world’s largest gold mine in Grasberg, Papua, and the Indonesian government will not come up in discussions when President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo visits the US from Oct. 25 to 30.

“Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said cancelled his departure; so, there is no more speculation [on possible discussions about Freeport],” he said as quoted by kompas.com on Sunday. The Cabinet secretary spoke to journalists at Halim Perdanakusumah Airport in East Jakarta on Saturday evening.

Pramono said that during his US business trip, President Jokowi would visit both the western and eastern parts of the country. In the east, President Jokowi would meet with US President Barack Obama, members of the US Congress, ministers and lobby groups to discuss the roles Indonesia and the US could play in the world.

“Surely, issues related to cooperation between the two countries in the fields of politics and the economy, as well as the signing of agreements in defense and security, will also be parts of the talks in the meetings,” said Pramono.

In his visit to the western parts of the US, he added, President Jokowi would visit Silicon Valley to meet with business players involved in digital technology and the creative economy, including the CEOs of several technology companies like Apple, Google and Microsoft.

“So, the President will have two types of visits, namely formal and informal, in the US. This is just like what we want, in which in the US the President will not only have a state visit, but also discuss problems related to the development of our digital technology and creative economy,” said Pramono.

He added that the President wanted people living in villages across Indonesia to understand and be involved in the use of digital technologies.

“Our villages minister [Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Minister Marwan Jafar] will follow up on the talks. Google has been willing to help us [to expand digital technology use],” he said.

Pramono went on to say that there was quite a huge amount of village funds that could be used to expand access to digital technology. He said that was why President Jokowi wanted to use his US visit to specifically explore opportunities to boost villages’ knowledge and interest in digital technologies.

Pramono said that in his US trip, President Jokowi was accompanied by a delegation of digital technology and creative economy developers, such as the founders of mobile-application-based motorcycle taxi company Go-Jek, local e-commerce giant Tokopedia and Indonesia’s largest online forum Kaskus.

“They are young entrepreneurs who are creative in digital technologies and the creative economy. That’s why they are involved in this US business trip, so that they can have more knowledge and understanding of the businesses because Silicon Valley has an increasing international influence,” said Pramono.
